Aromatically, Coriander oil has a slightly fruity, woody aroma. Coriander essential oil is distilled from the ripe seeds (fruit) of the coriander herb. It is cultivated all over Europe, particularly in Russia. The oil is colourless-to-yellow and has a pleasant smell. Another essential oil can be produced from coriander by the steam-distillation of the fresh and dried leaves. This oil has one main constituent - Decyl Aldehyde - quite different from the seed oil, which has a high percentage of Linalol. The seed oil is far safer for aromatherapy use. It is important to remember that whilst essential oils are being used, it is wise not to drink alcohol. This is particularly applicable when using Coriander. Use in moderation at all times.
